Postdoc Chakrapani wins best thesis award
Lakshmi Chakrapani, a postdoctoral researach associate in computer science, has earned a Sigma Xi Best Ph.D. Thesis Award from his alma mater, Georgia Institute of Technology. Chakrapani lists his research interests as “most aspects of embedded computing, from architecture to compilation and high level design automation.”
Chakrapani works with Krishna V. Palem, Ken and Audrey Kennedy Professor of Computer Science and Director of the VISEN (Value of Information-based Sustainable Embedded Nanocomputing) Center at Rice. Palem’s research focuses on a breakthrough low-energy computer chip technology that trades off precision in calculations for significant reductions in energy use. The chip will have applications in small electronic devices such as cell phones and a solar-powered electronic slate, or I-slate, among other things.
